April Ross
April Ross is only one of only a handful of beach volleyball players who have earned medals more than once at an Olympics. Alix klineman, who is competing for the first time in Tokyo's Olympics, will try to earn her third Olympic medal. Ross will also be hoping for her very first Olympic gold. At 39 she could have her last chance. Nevertheless she is confident that winning the gold medal is within reach. Ross was born in California, Costa Mesa in 1982. Her parents as well as her sister were residents there. Ross's athletic endeavors continued at Newport Harbor High School where she was a part of a number of sports. Being a pre-athlete she played indoor volleyball and track. However, she was a standout at this level. According to her bio in high school, she was a volleyball player as an outside setter (middle blocker) and setting (outside blocker). She was named one of the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the Year in 1999 due to her accomplishments. Also, in 2000 she was recognized as the Orange County Athlete of the Year for volleyball. Ross and Klineman started their partnership in 2017, However, Ross was a beach scene player for years prior to. In fact, she won multiple major tournaments with two different partners, one of whom is the volleyball legend. For six years from 2007 to 2013 she teamed alongside Jennifer Kessy who more recently played the role of Klineman's coach. Kessy was Ross's partner on the World Championships in 2009. The duo eventually captured a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings the legendary team that was the winners of the 2012 Olympics in London, beat their opponents to claim the gold. Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor when she retired. They both went on to take home the bronze beach volleyball medal in the Rio Olympics 2016 with Walsh Jennings. Ross began her collegiate time with the Trojans at USC following graduation from high school. It was a long time before Ross hit the beach and became a pro. Ross's time in the Trojans was remarkable. As a freshman in 2000 she fought her way to Pac-10 and NCAA All-American Freshman of Year accolades. She also was an All-American. Also, she was one of the key players to help the Trojans to make it to their way to the Final Four. The Trojans were devastated by a tragic incident in her sophomore year. However, she was able to make it an All-American once more. Through her two final years of participation in the Trojans program, she coached them to a national title every time. The achievements of each individual have established her status as a legend in volleyball. She won the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the top female NCAA player. Ross was a USC international relations student, was a volleyball star. Margie Ross wasn't able to watch her daughter's climb to beach volleyball fame. Ross lost her mom to cancer of the breast in 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. However, she continues to remember her deceased parent close and close. In addition, Margie is an ongoing source of inspiration to her on the beaches and throughout her daily life.
